I think it's also important to note that Zombie didn't have to compete with Halloween, just to do something better than Halloween 9 would have been.

True. I will say this. I liked the first bit of the movie a lot. The prequel probably would have been enough.

Yeah, I agree with that. If he could have stretched the prequel story line (which wouldn't have been too hard, just space out the killings) I would have been much more interested.

I really like your masters of Horror review btw.

I don't care if it's a spoiler, I've heard about a rape scene everywhere and that it was "not needed", but what is it? Does michael rape someone?

It's only in the workprint, not the theatrical version. Anyway, Lew Temple's character rapes a girl in Michael's cell, and that's how Michael escapes. This was later replaced by Michael taking out Bill Moseley and the other guards.

why did michael never kill the girl in his cell?

Infact, why was there a girl in michaels cell, he's a mass murderer.

Lew Temple takes her in there from her cell.

Then the workprint is actually better, because killing the guards took way too long.

ok ok, just for a little correction of terms here, cause this is driving me nuts.

MASS MURDERER = SOMEBODY WHO KILLS MANY PEOPLE AT ONCE

SERIAL KILLER = SOMEBODY WHO KILLS LOTS OF PEOPLE NOT AT ONCE.

Also, would you kill somebody if you sympothized with them? The movie also shows that Micheal is not 100% evil, in the movie he doesn't kill his baby sister or his mom because they didn't do anything to him like the stepfather and older sister, until his little sister stabs him. Also, he probably sympothized with the girl who was raped because she was being raped and was being held in a cell just like him.

then my worst fears are comfirmed. They've made him a vengeful killer as opposed to just a killer. But then, RZ made a mistake there, if he didn't kill her, why would he kill Lauries mates.

Wrong Turn

A guy headed for a job interview get’s caught up in traffic and decides to find a short cut, so that he will make his appointment. He takes a “Wrong Turn” and winds up on a road with a small group of teenagers that were out camping. Some of the group goes missing and weird things start happening. They soon find themselves running
from mutated inbreds that have been hiding in the hills.

Original story. Kind of like those of zombie films crossed with that Last House On The Left feeling. Decent
enough. “A group of teenagers get stranded out in the middle of nowhere and become victims of mutated inbred
humans.” If it sounds like The Hills Have Eyes to you, you are right. Although it may not sound like much, but is a good start on an average story.

Decent overall acting. It had a little bit too much screaming in my opinion. I think horror movies should
focus less on the terrified screaming scenes and more on the silent terror. This film doesn’t really have that element.

This film has an edge of your seat kind of feel to it, not knowing if they will get caught and when it’s gonna
happen. Not disturbing in the least. Just try and stay off of old dirt roads when you don’t have a map of the area, and
you most likely won’t be having any nightmares from watching this film.

I didn’t personally think the effects were all that stunning in this movie. It had a few cool scenes, but nothing
spectacular. And the killers looked somewhat like orc’s and old guys with bad teeth. There are enough in the kill
scenes to make it worth a look though.

The gore in this was there, and there are a couple of gross-out scenes, but nothing that’s enough to make
anyone want to toss their cookies. It just doesn’t have that tense, barf-inducing atmosphere about it as with such
movies as Saw that gives you the thought that it’s going to be gross, but never really shows anything. Pass this one up
if you’re looking to ruin your dinner.

This is your decent little average horror movie. It’s got enough to make it worth a rental for people who
aren’t hardcore gore or scare fanatics. Otherwise, everyone else should pass this one up and use your money on other
films in this genre. There are much better.

6/10

I like the first scene in this movie. When the woman is divided into two and her intestine drop in the street. That's so horrible.

Hostel Part II

I am going to say off the bat, I wasn't really anticipating this one, nor did I really care much to see it after watching the first one. But again, my morbid curiosity lead me to see it. And again, I was let down for the fact that I was hoping this one would be better than the first one. It's actually worse, in my opinion.

The acting is about the same as the first one, a bit more dull though. Not nearly as much of the humorous script, and at some parts, the characters just aren't really into what they are trying to do or say(like in the first one). It's better than most of the indie made horror films that are flooding the market now days though.

Most people are going to want to see this for the gore. It's somewhat gory, not as gross as the first, with maybe the exception of the final kill scene. And I must say, most of the kill scenes in this one are off screen, and not nearly as graphic as the first ones. It is again, lacking in the shadow of the first. It didn't even recreate what they did the first time around.

I'm going to cut this review short, since all I am doing is talking bad about it. It's an okay film if you haven't gotten sick of all of the SaW's that have been made in the past few years, but if you have, and you didn't like the first one, pass this one up. It's just more/less of the same. It's just as slow.

4/10

I'm not sure I agree...

Honestly, I thought that this movie was better than the original (though I wasn't a big fan of the first movie anyway). Tell tell the truth, despite the "torture porn" label it received (as a genre, not the movie), I found the torture/blood/gore few and far between and thought that if this movie received the cult reception that it had, it should have had more gore factor to it. The story took waaaaay too much time to get to the hostel and as soon as it got there, I didn't think that they were there nearly enough.

In regards to the second film, the audience already knows what to expect, so you are taken to the action much much faster. Not to mention, I thought it was interesting to actually see behind the macabre human auctions that take place. The death scenes were significantly more elaborate, which I found much more interesting and entertaining than the first film and I liked the end significantly more than I did the first film.

I wouldn't necessarily say that I would recommend it, but I personally might give it more than 4 out of 10.

FYI... I really like the thought and description you put in your reviews. :)

I thought the first scene was of the two rock climbers.

It is. But so was SaW, in a manner of speaking.
