since my son has been obsessed with Pokemon for the last several months and i've been unmercilessly exposed to it for hours on end ... something funny just occured to me ...

there is a creature called 'Jigglypuff'
its a cute little pink ball that sings - and when it sings it puts people to sleep...

i was playing pokemon snap with my kid when it hit me :

is Jigglypuff a reference to J-Pop stars ?

cute little girly-girls who's music puts you to sleep (because it sucks so bad)

and even the name : Jiggly-puff - j-pop ...

anyone young enough to be into Pokemon at the time know if this is the deal ?

I actually like Pokemon, both the anime, the card game and the Nintendo games are fun. I do see questionable things in it, like it sort of contain animal fights and in a way owning these little monsters in the anime and games is like the characters keep slaves, but all in all I think it is pretty good.
