I've said it elsewhere but I'll formally suggest it here as well. I think there should be a spam thread. Not for some corporate PR hack whose pushing the latest Omni-media crap - but for people who are making their own films or animation or shorts or writing books or whatever so that they can get products out to an audience who might be interested. But putting it all in one thread the various folks who seem mortally offended everytime some poor schlep posts a link to her/his website can just avoid it and those of us who might be interested can look in.

just a thought.

why do you think we've not had a spam thread in the past, and don't have one now????

It won't work. If a n00b joins primarily to spam their site or film, 9 times out of 10, they'll target as many threads in different forums as possible, to geta greater coverage.....rendering your idea completely useless.

A spam thread wouldnīt work. The spammers would never notice it. H.C would have to make a spam forum for spammers to find it. But why bother? I mean, as soon as the spam-man discover that no one sees his threads he will just start to spam in the other forums anyway.

I suggest you should lick my ass. . .
:p

As for the others - maybe it wouldn't work but as it is you've got tons of spam flooding into each forum thread - goddamn, half the posts on this forum seem to be either someone spamming or (more often) 90 of the people on this forum going ballistic about it.

come on - my ass tastes like chocolate - yum yum :D I promise!!!

Anyway, I guess my point is just on principle - and I don't expect anyone to agree or like it or whatever - i just think with all this affordable technology that some people are trying to put together their own stuff (cartoons, books, stories, art, films, whatever) and its cool to see them get a chance to push some stuff.

(With that, let me add that it ain't me brother - I've not got a creative, talented, or sane bone in my body!)
But . . . whatever. . . .

How about straight out banning these spamming noobs and deleting their posts outright ? It's supposed to be rule #1 in the new member forum, but obviously has no effect if these guys don't bother to read the rules in the first place (which wouldn't matter since wouldn't matter since they're not enforced anyways). They come here, spam the place up and leave. The only one I see making an effort against it is Zwoti. Unfortunately I think he's limited to the film section and can't delete the posts.
If these guys want to advertise here, let them pay for advertising space. This is still a fan forum and nobody here should be subjected to the constant barrage of advertisements. If an actual member here was making a film and talked about it in the course of conversation is one thing. The "one hit wonders" is something entirely different and should be dealt with as such. They don't even have the decency to plug/link horror.com on their sites, which is often the case on other film boards to allow the spam. Drop kick these jerks out of here with their spam as a message to others like them: they're not welcome here.

I agree with you in general - if the rule forbids spam, then enforce it. But, since that isn't working - why not contain it? (Its a bit like the argument for legalizing drugs - you can't "stop" people from spamming, so make a regulated place for it.) I, for one, do look at most spam sites - but not the obvious corporate plugs - I find the indie shit people slap together interesting. But, I completely understand and respect that most of the folks here DO NOT want to look at self-promoting people's stuff . . . cool. If there was a way to channel spam into one thread it **might** clear up the other threads. (or maybe not).
