HUTSON was amazing back in the eighties when he first came on the scene. His writing was not top class prose and he didn't have any characterization but he achieved what he set out to do.That was to enthrall the reader and he certainly did that.He stretched the borders of what was permissible to print with his graphic descriptions of sex and violence in his outlandish stories.Once you started reading a Hutson novel it was hard to put down because you just had to know what the next page had in store.
However I think Hutson has lost his power over the last 10 years because he began to move away from horror and his stories became more like violent dramas than fantasy horror.

hutson has said on numerous occasions (fair number of times when he showed up on the james whale radio show) that he wanted to invoke a reaction in the readers.......

....and if it had to be repulsion then so be it

The sex scenes in Lucy's Child are pretty graphic
