Saw the trailer for it a little while ago, looks damn good. I think I remember hearing that its being directed by the guy who did the Japanese Ring 2, Hideo Nakata. Its gotten me a little curious, but I'm afraid it could turn into the whole "Grudge" fiasco, when Takashi Shimizu did an Ameican movie in a language he didn't even know. Any thoughts, how's this movie gonna turn out?

I liked the american remake of "Ringu"...not as good but one of the best remakes ever....."the Blob" and "Invasion of the Bodysnatchers"(1978) are two other great remakes...
..anyway i watched "Ringu 2" again and i think it was better this time..but the last 10 minutes still suck....

American Remake of Ringu was OK as remakes go, not a patch on Ringu IMO, but better than most remakes ...

How ever 4 Japanese Movies, A korean Remake and 1 US Remake so far, I say that's enough, this idea has been done to death, time to move on and do something new!

Oh good, someone else saw The Spiral besides me. Didn't like it that much (if you've read the book, they kinda mutilated it), But that scene with a naked Sadako poping out of the TV was fun.

Ring 2 is looking good, and I'm interested to see what Nakata will do with it. I actually like The Grudge quite a bit. So I'll be there.

Well thats a TV series ... but it does add to the fact that there has been enough done with this for the momment, at least IMO

The Spiral was shot as Ringu 2, but at test screenings they were not happy with it, so Ringu 2 was shot and the Spiral was released under that title ...

So wether you count the TV version or not thats still alot of movies based on the same source material in a very short amount of time!

I've got the complete TV series on DVD (you can get it at www.asiancult.com), and it's VERY different from the book. There's a whole lotta major plot changes, including one about Ryuji being Sadako's son(!). There's also a lot of stuff about the Ring Virus that comes out The Spiral, and lots of characters that don't appear in Suzuki's book.

i know this sounds terrible....but i can't get into too may asian sagas...with sequels and such, cause i get confused easily....alot of asians, especially the women look alike to me...so i get mixed up sometimes by the cast members in a 90 minute movie, let alone in sequels where they're switchin' the actors on me...

The first remake are very much alike...I like the japanese version better(cause I like the asian setting)...but I like the remake too..:)
...and Ringu 2 (japanese) is ok....not so scary....more a investigation movie....
...and part 3 (japanese) has a different director and the location is at a drama school...its watchable

The Ring is 19 minutes longer, and it seems like more. There's a lot more added to the plot of The Ring, which isn't particularly a good thing. In some ways, they're a lot alike. But there are a lot of differences.

I thought it was good, I just wish there'd been more scary stuff and less emoting and drama. Despite being directed by Hideo Nakata, it's still not as creepy as the Japanese versions. This film was more like Nakata's Dark Water .

But it does contain the only deer attack I've ever seen in a horror film.

I thought "The Ring 2" was a typical run of the mill sequel. Nothing new as far as sequels go. I did like the fact that they gave some more background on Samaras origins though.

Eh, I haven't seen the Japanese versions...but in my opinion, out of the american re-makes, I perfer The Ring more so then The Ring 2. Why? Because to me...eh it was a bit too computer graphical. With the water, and the deer, etc.
I'd say to me there was only two creepy scenes.
It also seemed like it was struggling for a plot slightly.

It was like a lot of other 'possession' flicks. Although Samara is still creepy and there were a lot of scary moments. Hopefully she will give up on possession and return to coming out of people's screens and killing them for the sequel. ;)
