I liked this movie back in the day, but I dont remember much of it now. I do remember that the special effects were pretty cool. Is it worth a rent or buy???

the blob 88 sorta stunk...kevin dillon's face urks me....whenever i think of this movie i remember the image of kevin dillon and the leading lady running from the blob....which is chasing them on the ceiling...it looked like an effect from the 50's...the 70s one is worth a look....i think larry hagman directed it.

watch it again....they're not all bad...but theres a shot from a low angle when the couple is running away from the blob and its on the ceiling....shit is horrible

the 70s one wasnt meant to be a comedy....but between dick van patten and the old black guy, whos hilarious....it comes off as one.

I watched in recently and I enjoyed it. Some of the effects do look shitty (maybe it was an intentional throwback to the 50s veriosn) but hey its a pretty old movie now. It was another period of horror where there was heaps of remakes of older movies some were good and some were just plain shit. I really liked the Cronenberg remake of The Fly whcih came out around this time. I didn't know there was a 70s version of the Blob I'll have to check it out.

I saw the 1950's version with Steve McQueen in first run at the theater--It was scary at the time, but I was in my very early teens.

I've done some searching on imdb.
The name was "Beware! The Blob"
Apparently, the 70's one was more of a comedy spin-off than anything, but a spin-off that worked like a sequel, even picked up right where the first one apparently left off (I never saw it), in terms of location...etc.
None of the same cast or crew as the original.

I only ever saw the 80's version myself. I was about 7 when it came out, 9 when I first saw it on video...I liked it. Completely unbelievable story, but yknow, still fun - and kinda creeped me out as a kid. Good effects. I remember a scene where it came up from a drainpipe and attatched itself to someones face?
Either way, it was a decent film.

I'd like to see the original and perhaps the comedy "sequel" too.

I wonder what would win between the blob and the thing in the river from creepshow...? :p

I liked them all.

The original with Steve MsQueen is excellent and a classic. It should be one in all horror movie fans' collection.

Beware! The Blob is okay, and worth having, if nothing else just for kicks and to have the "Blob collection."

The '88 release is good IMO, I like to own the original and remake of any horror movie for back-to-back viewing and comparison and "just because."

Actually I'm 61, It was in the late 50's.

About the same time as "The Tingler" with Vincent Price.

That's not old school - that's before schools were invented.
