Okay, dont you fucking hate it when someone lies to you and they get away with it because ther eisnt a godamn thing you can do to them?

This bitch calle din a little while ago. Apparently, when she tried logging in to a program we use here at work from home (we have a setup called VPN that allows people to get on the work network from home), her VPN connection would drop and she would disconnect, so she wouldnt be able to get email, etc from home.

Now she said:
1. This has been working all along from home
2. She couldnt disconnect any of her home networking hardware (this is the 1rst troubleshooting step, always. casll your isp and say you have a problem connecting, and tell them you have a router, they will tell you to go straight into your cable/dsl modem)
3. She ABSOLUTELY had to get back on today.

So i got pissed right away because she wanted me to magically fix her fucking problem without being willing to take the first step towards troubleshooting it.

I get off the phoen with her and ask around. Turns out the old versionof this program has a problem over VPN and will kill the connection. So being a nice boy, i call the bitch back.

I have her check, and behold, hshe is using the old version. She NEVER used it from home. She couldnt have, it NEVER would have worked!!!! And then i inform her that the upgrade has to be done in the office, no ifs ands or buts, it cant be done remotely.

Then, she acts all fucking laid back. no biggie. she'll wait until tomorrow. Its so fucking important that she was going to have upper management ride my ass until i became Jesus and worked a fucking miracle, but as soon as she has to drag her lazy ass into the office, it can wait another fucking day....

i hope her fucking roof collapses in the storm today.

the all time classic is ..
some programs cause conflicts with others .. have you recently installed anything ?

no..

then you look and see chat software, porn dialers ,,etc.

when i was doing that job i just told my manager that i'm too busy to waste my time - reimage.

What i love is "is there any 3rd party software on your computer?"
"No."

Then you check, and they have weatherbug, webshots, halflife, Tiger woods, AOL, WindowWasher, Trillian, bargainbuddy....

Granted, we have a tendency to keep "forbidden" software on our cmputers, but we fix them, we know what to do if something goes wrong.

i used to be tech support .. i'm strictly asset management now.

I actually - finally - have the sweetest job on the planet now .. its a lot of work - non stop - but i love it ..

I have a huge secure room on the 14th floor .. nice view ... hardly anone on the floor and the ones that are are in their own secure server rooms.
The technicians come up for stuff all the time but basically i work alone so i CRANK TUNES LOUD all day long. I have over 1000 cd's full of MP3s I've never had the time to listen to - now i'm catching up.

I brought a bar fridge and a microwave in here ... decorated the place ... and my boss is not only drop dead gorgeous - she's amazing to work for ...

All the people i deal with are cool now - unlike the nerd convention i was forced to deal with before (engineers)

life is too good ... my car will probably blow up or something soon.

I am still stuck answering support calls on occasion (like all this week....) which is why ive been looking around lately... Plus, most places would hire me as a programmer only ( i love programming) and i would get paid 1.5 to 2 times what i make here. So i have been looking....

As it turns out, if you have the following skills, you are in pretty high demand:
C#
ASP .Net
HTML
XML
Javascript
CSS
XHTML
VBScript

i have anywhere from 1 to 5 years experience with the above list. I already apssed up one job offer because it would have meant a 2 hour one way commute, but it would have been $73,000 a year.... sigh.... Im also looking into a possible contracting job (which is scary), but it is for $45 an hour, which figures to about $93,000 a year. With money like that, who needs job security?

believe me, it didnt happen overnight .. i put up with a lot of shit in the past.

and Vod .. i used to do network admin .. i could be getting a lot more right now (if i retrained for the new skills) but i made a pesonal decision years ago that i wanted to be at home as much as possible .. not turn into a driven corporate boy.

i refuse to manage anyone, i wont work overtime or weekends, and i'm not on call - ever.

i'm not lazy or unmotivated ... but no amount of money is worth not seeing my son grow up ..

The thing is, as a programmer, i would be strictly 9 to 5, no overtime (and if i worked from home, no biggie, i play on the computer as often as possible. my wife occasionally calls it the other woman...), and certainly no fucking weekends.

I still have to carry a godamn pager every 3 weeks and answer after-hours support calls. Usually dumbasses thinking that deleting all of their outlook contacts on their work computer from home is an emergency...(that really happened the last time i was on...)

I actually answered a call one night a few years ago. me and a bunch of guys from work were at a bar having drinks, when i get paged. So i listen to the message, and this dick was just checking the status of a trouble ticket he had put in earlier.

I called him back and gave him a royal ass chewing. Wanting to know if someone is going to check up on something woith your email tomorrow is NOT a fucking emergency....

well if you worked hard then you deserve everything you have, I'm currently trying to get on with Dimension films as an intern. I sent them(amoung others)a bunch of my scripts and one of their low level executives contacted me,so hopefully I'm on the right road.

thanks.

that's why I'm so nervous about the script I'm working on now because that's the one he wants to see. That's why I've been asking you all those questions and probably the reason I've been blocked for so long because I'm nervous as hell, he didn't give me a deadline or anything so I think everything will workout ok.

Writing screenplays, eh? im jealous. Im trying to get a few more short stories under my belt before owrking on any.

I had one completely outlined last year, was 16 pages long just in outline form.

Then my work computer crashed and i had to replace the harddrive. lost everything but an excel spreadsheet with ideas. felt like i lost a limb.

I hope my stories were able to help crack your writer's block. i know how awful that can be.

Im the opposite, anything longer than 30 pages is too godamn much. i will never be a novelist, and i am perfectly cool with that. plus, plent y of short stories have been made into movies.

everything I write looks like ''IT'' mostly because I describe the hell outta everything to both set the scene and leave the possibility of adapting it to a novel. I end up writing something about 500 pages then editing it down to about 250 and if the novel thing ever comes up I'll go back to the original copy and write it over completely into novel form.Since the sixth grade I've written about 50 but the ones from the time I was 16 on back are pretty bad.

I am actually very surprised how sophisticated i was when i was younger when i go over my older stuff. A lot of the subject matter was a bit more childish than i would write now, and i did a LOT more fantasy, but i have been pretty happy with my abilities all along.

And i havent had a bad review yet.

I love my wife, she offers good criticism. "Justice" will probably be longer in a little while. i thought it felt rushed, especially in the middle, and my wife agreed, so there will be more character developement, but the core of the story will stay the ssame, especially the beginning and end :)

the stuff I did when I was younger isn't nearly as good as it is now because back then it was just a hobby because I was more into playing football and not to toot my own horn but I was a good football player and that's what I wanted to do with my life but I'm 5'8 or 5'9 and I run a 4.4 40 yard dash so I came to terms with the fact I wasn't going to make it in the NFL unless I invoked Walter Payton's spirit so I got serious about writing.Since then I've only gotten one bad review from my teacher, and I also have one person who gives me constructive criticism.
