So my friend's uncle is letting us use their cottage if we want to make a video. I think we're going to try and workout some script surrounding this cottage/the woods. Shouldn't be too hard, nobody said it had to be entirely original. :p

Anyway, it's probably going to be awful but my friend is really good with color correcting and that jazz so I hope we can atleast get it to look alright. That's really all I want to do, have fun but try and atleast get it to look right.

My question is how exactly do you go about lighting a cabin? I really know absolutely nothing about lighting, I'm sure my friend knows more than me, but she can't possibly know that much more. I was watching the evil dead commentary and Bruce Campbell was talking about them having to cut out beams in the ceilng for lights, can we light scenes properly without doing this?

lighting is HUGE.
its the biggest challange you will have.
Its like taking a picture indoors .. you end up with shadows if you dont have lighting coming from other angles ..

thats something worth Googling ...
You'd need to rent the proper equipment.

scenes at night are the hardest ...

In Carpenters 'in the mouth of Madness' he did a commentary with his lighting guy to describe how the scenes were lit and how much was involved ... i didnt realize how much i took for granted.

This is something you'll want to seriously research.

Here's a few articlesLow Budget Lighting (http://www.scottspears.net/Lowbudgetinglighting.htm), China Lanterns (http://www.scottspears.net/chinalanternarticle.htm), and Lighting (http://www.video-animation.com/video_08.shtml), but most of all check out this page
Lighting Techniques (http://www.scottspears.net/filmmakpg3.html) since it has small WMV files explaining and showing this stuff in action. Hope that helps. Good luck.

Hey Angela,
I might be interested in doing the score if you want. At this point I'm just trying to fill up my resume. Let me know when you got a script available.
