Agreed. I won this one in an online contest a month or so ago, hadn't seen it before but was definitely looking forward to it. All the good things I'd heard about it were true . . . a damn fine movie. Disturbing. Sad.

Like AvengerSoul said, I'll be looking forward to more from McKee too.

Speaking/writing as someone who has worn a glass eye (the left one, thank you) since age 18 months, I'm highly intrigued by the statement and the movie and am now off to imdb.com to check it out.

Seriously - you have a glass eye? That's kind of cool. If I'm can ask, how did you get a glass eye?

I have to agree with everyone else on this one, this movie was sick and twisted...the best kind of movie I love to see. (Says a lot about me doesn't it, hehe). I have to say that Angela Bettis did a great job in her role as May, I couldn't think of anyone else that could've pulled it off as good as she did. :)

I actually just saw this the other night, (based on forum opinion) I thought the movie was excellent, very good story line al though it did take a while to get to butchery but overall I enjoyed it. Will be adding it to my library.

Terrible movie.

I am very surprised that I sat all the way through it. The plot gave the movie so much potential but the movie was a complete waste of time. I hate the girl that played May too. She can't act.

Anyway, this is just my opinion, so don't reply wanting to start something.

The good opinions do outweigh the bad ones so there is no need to start something.

I just watched May last night in fact. Bought it a while ago and haven't watched it till now. For fans of that kind of movie troubled, awkward girl go see the Japanese film Audition. At first you'll say, "What the hell am I watching?" It gets creepier little by little.

I watched this one again today, as a matter of fact. It does hold up to a second viewing.

Very tragic . . . I just wanna give MAY a big hug, tell her everything's gonna be alright.

At least until she pulls out the sharp objects. Then I'd run.

I just saw this and liked it a lot too. I liked that they used The Breeders music and that James Duval was in it too, if only briefly.
SPOILER WARNING:
My only critique is I wish she used a human head for her friend. She had plenty to choose from!

i was really not very interested by this movie. there was nothing truly "creepy" about it. oh no, the doll talks to her and she listens, not really creepy or even interesting. the movie really didnt make sense, because she has a glass eye, she only likes certain parts of other ppl? Is her vision really that poor in her good eye that she can't see the rest of the person? All in all i guess i was just very disappointed.

Nyder
07-26-2004, 09:52 PM
It was because her mother told her that if you can't find a friend, then make one, so she just twisted that concept with her own devious little mind.

I really enjoyed this movie. May is my dream girl :D .

The music was very good and the horror was subtle for the most part. The production design was also very good considering their budget. Obviously Taxi Driver was an influence on this film (they even say so in the commentary).

Last night on HBO Zone they showed the movie May. I had never seen the movie. After reading about it many times in Fangoria i wanted to see if but I kept putting it off for whatever reason. I decided that eventhough I had to get up early for school today I would stay up late and watch it. I must say that I was not disappointed. It was a great film. I'm happy that I stayed up to watch it. Angela Bettis was great. Lucky McGee is a great young writter/director. I hope that both of them go on to great stuff in the future. This was just a creepy ilm. I am now going to go out and buy the film.

… May (http://shadowfaxmedia.co.uk/forum/kb.php?mode=article&k=6&sid=d41a062eda82868b9a763e5acf0cd005) is very good debut, I love the way it laughs at the tipical horror audience and most of them don’t notice …

SamCostello

Agreed. May is a really terrific film.

It's so unusual for horror movies to have characters as well realized as May or Adam are and all of them film's action and violence grows out of the characters and their motivations, rather than just the necessity of plot or high concept.

That's even rarer in horror.

Can't wait for McKee's next movie.

Yeah, I was putting it off too for a while, but I was in the video store and I heard the clerk tell this old guy "That's a horrible horror movie. If you want to see a good scary movie, rent May. It should be in." Well I just so happened to be standing in front of it so I swiped it before the old man got over to it and checked it out.

It was pretty great. It was really original, I thought. The audience pities the killer more than they condemn her. I've also read a lot of people who say that all of May's quirks (about the hands and talking to the doll and just being misunderstood) were really sexy.

The only thing that I thought was bogus about it was that contacts don't straighten strabismus (lazy eye). It's a weakened muscle in the eye and there's no way that wearing a contact lens will straighten and strenghthen that muscle. The patch she wore over her other eye as a child, though, would. But I suppose they'd use that as a ploy to get her out of those glasses, which I thought were hot. *shrugs*

This is one of the best non franchise films of the last few years. it has marked out Angela Bettis as someone who can be both a sympathy gaining character as well as a body harvesting screwed up nutjob. the end payoff is good as well but i wont spoil that.

I searched the forum and was surprised no one has talked about the 2002 movie "May". What did people think of it? I found it to be morbidly amusing, awkward and disturbing...I liked it.

For those who don't know this movie...it is about a strange girl named May who never had a friend except a doll her mother gave her when she was a little girl. Due to this fact she is inept at having a normal relationship. When she fails to find the "perfect friend" she decides to make one herself using parts from different people.

Im quite sure there are plenty of other topics on it here. It seems like a love it or hate it movie. I thought it was ok but I didnt find it scary at all. Acting was very good by the lead actress. The storyline was pretty cool as well. I dont think it had people on edge of their seats or had their hearts racing in suspense.

I think this movie is very good. Like BH14 said. Its not scary. But i dont think that it is meant to be. I think this movie is trying to achieve something else. Somthing very morbid. This movie achieves that in my opinion. And after viewing this film. I was smiling and very happy for May. It was a happy movie. In the sickest most disturbing way possible.

Funny you bring this up, I was just at Blockbuster earlier, and saw "Love Object" picked it up and looked at it and thought how it must be similiar to May. I think because of its similiarities. Is why i didnt rent it. I bought High Tension Unrated instead.
